Successful project completion

Our administration building has now been completely refurbished in terms of energy efficiency.

Under Green Facilities, the SWT Green Steel Strategy summarises measures in which fossil fuels are replaced by renewable energy sources with the aim of creating a ‘green’ infrastructure within the company. At the beginning of 2022, we began planning the ‘Energy-efficient refurbishment of administrative buildings’ project, which has now been successfully completed.

We have switched the heat supply from natural gas to electricity by using heat pumps. We only use green electricity to operate the heat pumps, which means that this is directly linked to CO2 savings. To this end, we have extended the building’s power connection and installed panel heating with ceiling elements that can be activated in all rooms.

Climate-controlled ceilings heat in winter and cool in summer

With this new technology, rooms can be heated on cold days and cooled in summer. A newly installed intelligent building control system ensures that the entire system is operated efficiently and in line with demand. By implementing these measures, we expect to save around 50 tonnes of CO2 per year in the future. If you were to fill standard balloons exclusively with this amount of CO2, you would end up with over 10 million balloons.

In addition, we converted all the lighting in the building from conventional lighting technology to energy-efficient LED technology. We have also equipped all offices with height-adjustable desks and modernised the IT infrastructure.
