With a wealth of events ranging from panel discussions and specialist lectures on all aspects of steel as a building material to the presentation of the renowned industry awards, over 600 architects, civil engineers, urban planners, students and representatives from science, the steel industry and the steel trade were treated to a top-class and highly attractive programme. Naturally, Stahlwerk Thüringen was also represented on site with an exhibitor stand.
The importance of building with steel was recognised by Federal Building Minister Klara Geywitz in her welcoming speech to the German Steel Construction Day: “Steel is an essential raw material and indispensable for the transformation of our economy. We need it for the construction of buildings, railway tracks, wind turbines and electric cars. Green steel is a realistic prospect for the future.”
This year, the focus was on the reuse of steel and its decarbonisation. With SWT Green Steel, our plant has one of the lowest-emission steels in Europe and thus offers building owners the possibility of constructions with the smallest possible CO2 footprint.
“Sustainability is a key issue in steel construction, and the industry has the potential to play a key role in implementing sustainable building practices,” said DSTV President Christian Wurst in his closing remarks. Steel is 100% recyclable and therefore offers excellent conditions for resource-conserving construction. However, clear guidelines and political support are needed to establish sustainable construction across the board.
Steel that carries pioneering events.
